The current IT mood feels strange.
There is still plenty of work, but the confidence is different now. AI is everywhere, budgets feel tighter, hiring seems more selective, and people are quietly wondering which skills will still matter in a few years.
At the same time, real systems still need people. Someone still has to understand the business, fix the messy integration, explain the risk, and deal with the “small change” that touches six teams.
Maybe IT is not disappearing. Maybe it is just becoming less comfortable.

I left IT a few years ago and moved into kitchen design, and honestly I don’t miss that constant feeling of chasing the next big thing.It has its own stress, of course, but I actually feel passionate about it. There is something satisfying about making a real space work better for someone. When the layout finally makes sense, it feels like solving a puzzle people will live in every day. Also, when a cabinet does not fit, at least it does not pretend to be innovation.
