Some books make you want to talk about them right away. Others need time.
You finish them, put them aside, and only later realise they are still somewhere in your thoughts.
Do you usually know immediately when a book has affected you, or does it take time?

I usually know immediately. Some books create a feeling while I’m still reading, and by the final page I already know they will stay with me.
Usually later. I’ll be doing something completely unrelated and suddenly one scene or idea from the book crawls back into my head.
Usually it takes time for me. The books that affect me most tend to return quietly, in some random thought days later.
Maybe:
For me it happens with books like Never Let Me Go, The Remains of the Day, or Stoner. They feel quiet while reading, then stay somewhere in the background for days.
